PROJECTS
Scientific thinking in communities, integrates education with development.
Awareness Drive on Water Resource Management
Water Resource Management” aims to educate communities on the sustainable use and conservation of water. It highlights the importance of preserving water resources, addressing issues like overuse, pollution, and climate change impacts. The drive encourages practices such as rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation, and waste reduction. By fostering a collective understanding, it seeks to promote responsible water management, ensuring availability for future generations while protecting vital ecosystems.
1. Encourage responsible citizenship for water conservation and sustainable use.
2. Promote scientific literacy about water’s quality and quantity through science media and eco-conscious youth.
3. Establish water/eco clubs in schools to educate children on water conservation and science.
4. Popularize water science using various media and engage youth to educate the public.
5. Develop water educators to foster scientific literacy and innovative solutions for water issues.
Detection and Prevention of Food Adulteration
VICAS has developed a syllabus along with a testing kit, Training Manual, Posters etc for one to five days activities related to hands-on training cum awareness drive among children, teachers and common masses to fulfil the following objectives.
Objectives:
- To detect the adulterants like paraffin wax/hydrocarbons, dyes and argemone in the fats, oils and ghee.
- To detect the presence of adulterants like water, proteins, urea, formalin, detergent, sugar and starch in the milk.
- To prevent illnesses by focusing food-manufacturing attention and activities on preventing or minimizing exposure of the consumer to pathogens.
- The maximum frequency and/or concentration of a hazard in a food at the time of consumption that provides or contributes to the
- The quantitative estimation of risk resulting from risk characterization
Water quality monitoring methods and analysis
VICAS has developed a syllabus along with a testing kit, Training Manual, Posters etc for one to five days activities related to hands-on training cum awareness drive among children, teachers and common masses to fulfil the following objectives.
- To enable students to understand the principles and the practical approaches and techniques required to effectively monitor the chemical, hydrological and microbiological elements of water quality.
- To build understanding of water quality parameters and their relation to public health andenvironment.
Chemistry and composition of water, properties of water, water pollution and sources of pollution, water quality parameters, importance of water analysis for environment.
Science Writing /Journalism - A Multimedia Approach
VICAS has developed a syllabus along with a Training Manual for one to five days activities related to hands-on training in Science Writing/Journalism-A multimedia approach to fulfil the following objectives.
- To provide the participants hand-on experience, specialized knowledge, and competency in critical and functional area of science journalism by adopting a multi-media approach.
- To equip the participants with the basic journalistic skills, techniques and expertise along with requisite/fundamental knowledge so that they can take-up science journalism as a personal career.
- To expose the participants to various communication strategies with respect to science journalism and specifically for various groups of target audiences.
